Born in VA. to gypsies and jackals, I came up on a steady stream of music of all kinds. Moving and relocating frequently as a child, music gave me a stability that remains with me to this day. Always propelling me forward, even at a young age and before deciding to pick up an instrument, music had always given me a constant back beat that was bouncing around my brain and planting itself firmly into my soul. Christmas Day at the age of 9, I got my first drum set. That day I sorted out the basics to “Billie Jean” by Michael Jackson and was playing along to the record. At the ripe old age of 9 I knew what I was going to be doing with the rest of my life. Music.
Within 3 months of that day I was being taken to jam sessions with guys 20 to 30 years older than me. I was handed the sticks and told to sit in. This is where I learned a love for improv and cut my teeth on how to feel out other players on the fly while sitting in the hot seat. The feel of driving a band along was just intoxicating. This would lead to a childhood of practicing and learning how to understand music rather than playing kickball and red rover. Even later through high school my family would worry about me. Why would I not go out on weekends and just sit in my room practicing? Because I was on a mission, a constant pursuit of the muse.
Though originally a drummer, at 15 I picked up bass guitar and a bit of acoustic guitar. Later that year I would be kicked out of the high school marching band for being too interested in making my own noise. A truth that has not waned one bit. After that I did the usual runs of the type of bands you play in as a teenager, generally lousy. Later on at 21 I got my first Stratocaster, thus beginning a love affair with yet another instrument, the electric guitar. This was territory I had been wanting to explore for some time and was happy to dive in head first.
I have always had a fascination with sound. All sound. Even back as a kid when I discovered I could over dub myself by using 2 to 3 boom boxes. I have strived to bring together the organic and the otherworldly in what I create. I myself enjoy being taken on a journey via sound and want those who listen to my work to have the same experience for themselves as well.
All of these paths and have led me to where I am today. Currently I reside in the mid-west working as a full time musician/producer doing work both live and in the studio for myself and many others. And I’ve been lucky to work with a long list of very talented and gifted people over the years and at this point there is no sign of slowing.
Artists/Bands/Clients I’ve either been a member of and/or have worked with in one form or another. Some of these include:
